Chapter 9:Leads to Newer.

The Two detectives seem a slight bit surprised by Johan's reaction. Toron clears his throat nervously and starts to explain "We're really sorry to be disturbing you at this time, but we are going around interviewing people who may have known your faience. We decided to come here first and see in your could give us a few names. A list of her friends, maybe tell us if you know of any threats that may have been made against her." Johan stands in the door way quietly as a nervous silence pervades the atmosphere. Corben shuffles his feet slightly and glances around before asking "Is this a good time?" noting the rather disheveled appearance of the young man informant of him. " We could come back later if that would work better for you." Johan snarls at them "If you are so willing to come back later then why did you spend so much time buzzing the door?" The detectives look at each other. Toron turns back to Johan and explains "We just arrived. There must have been someone else at the door. It was portly family or a friend stooping by to see how you were doing. Now about those questions " his voice fads of a bit with the last word as he waits for an answered. Toron's shoulders slump a little bit and he steps out of the door "I was just on my way out, if you want to talk you'll just have to walk with me." He heads down the hallway and the detectives follow. No one says anything as the walk down the hall.

The three men step out of the building into the afternoon sunlight. The glare causes Johan to squeeze his eyes shut for a minuet while he fishes a pair of expensive sunglasses out of his coat pocket. He put the glasses on and rubs his temples a bit as his headache returns. Detective toron takes this moment to speak "We really are sorry to disturb you but we have very little to go on right now and anything that you can tell could be a real help." Johan looks at the tall man puzzled he feels the need to ask "What do you mean? Wasn't there any evidence at the townhouse? You know, hair, fabric fibers, finger prints? I saw this show on some sort of detectives were the talked about how even a few spots of blood can be a big lead." Corben places his hand gently on the younger mans shoulder and looks him straight in the eyes as he calmly explains "Son, there was no evidence. No florin fibers have been found at the residence. There were no finger prints, no tissue sample under her nails and no blood. We couldn't even find any foot prints leading to the residence that didn't belong to ether your fiancee or you mother and cousin." Johns face lights up a bit and he stops "Maybe she wasn't killed. She could have had one of those wired seizures were the heart and breathing get really slow." He says with a strong sense of rabid hope in his voice. The detectives look at each other. Toron shakes his head as Carbon continues "She died from massive blood lose. The coroners report indicated that there wasn't ennui blood in her body to keep a mouse alive. If she had been in a coma, we would have known it long before her body disappeared." The look of hope on Johns face shatters. His venire body seems to sage and Toron steps closer thinking that the young man might be about to collapse. Johan places his face in his hands and rubs his eyes before he quietly asks "If she baled to death then why wasn't there any blood at the house?" Toron shrugs "We believe that she was killed someplace else and that her body was placed in the town house after the fact. Any thing you can tell us about people she knew, or people who may wish to hurt you and your family would be of great help." Johan shrugs and continues walking in a slow, stunned manner down the striate. The detectives follow as he tells them quietly "I don't know that anyone would have hurt her for any reason, but there was some rather spooky coke who keep pestering her when we first met, but then she moved closer to the apartment I was keeping without leaving a forwarding address and the jerk stopped showing up." Toron takes out a note pad and jots some notes down he looks up and asks "Could you tell us what his name is?" Johan shakes his head pathetically "No, I cant. Sorry. She told me not to worry about him. Seed she could sandal him. Seed she would take care of her problems her self and that I should just stay away from the man. Never once told me his name, were she met him or anything else. Someone at her old place might know. Or talk to a friend of hers. A James Steven's or Galleon Steven's, as he occasionally goes by. Mostly on his days off when he's out bar hopping. Colera trusted him, personally he made me a bit nervous. Hit on me the first time she introduced us. At lest I knew that he wasn't going to be hitting on her." They arrive at the entrance to a bar as Johan starts to enter he finishes with "Sorry I couldn't be of more help." and then he walks into the building and gets himself a drink.

..........................................................

Later, after a long trip across town the detectives arrive at Colera's apartment were the building supervisor lets them in and then hurries away muttering something about his hopes that somebody, preferably not him, will clear out the apartment. They enter to find an impeccably clean dwelling. Despite the shabby overall condition of the general building some care has been taken to attest make this single room apartment appear fairly presentable. The small kitchen area is clean, though it doesn't look like the tenant was one to use it very much. Looking around they can see a small hide-a-bed set up against the wall. A very neat desk and chair are positioned under a window and the telephone rest neatly in one corner with a small personal phone book roasting on it. There is no television present but there is a small table near the kitchenette. Toron walks over to the desk and picks up the phone book that's sitting there. Flipping threw it he comments "there aren't very many phone numbers in here. Threes one for Mr. Lenvel, but its not the number to his uptown residence. One for the place she works and one or two others. It shouldn't take very long to call her acquaintances. We better ask a few of her nears if they know anything." Corben looks over at his partner and sighs "I spouse your right about that. How about we split up. You take one side of the hall and I'll take the other.

After going up and down the apartment complex talking with the nears about all the detectives mange to find out is that their victim was a fairly private individual. Most of her nears had never even seen her with Johan Lenvel much less any one else. She came and want on her own and spent very little time in her place except to sleep and change. A few commented that she was a quite person who never had her television or radio turned up too loud, which makes seance as there was neither in her apartment. All in all the afternoons interviews turned out to be something of a waist of time providing no leads beyond the name of a friend that they had received from her fiancee prior to going to her apartment complex. Unfortunately, they were not able to locate anyone by ether name so they had come to check her place out. They walk out to the street and head to their car. Toron opens the drivers side door and gets in. As Corben gets into the passenger side and they buckle up Toron comments in an almost sarcastic manor "Attest we found a personal address book. Her friend is portly some were in this thing. It should be of some help, even if her nears weren't." He starts the car and pulls out onto the street. Carbon picks up the small book as his partner sets it down on the seat between them and starts to look threw it. He comments gruffly "Not many numbers in here. I hope these individuals knew her better then the other people we talked to. But then, I would have expected that one of the nears around the town house would have seen something." Toron turns a corner and replies "I would have thought that her fiancee would have known more. Maybe she was treeing to distance herself from more then just some string creep." Corben looks at his partner "I cant help but think that she was in some real danger even before she met Johan Lenvel and was trying to get away from it with out getting him involved." Toron sighs and replies "I'm certain that your right, unfortunately that is going to make our job all that much harder. As things stand right now we really have no place to start." They arrive back at the police station and head inside. Toron grabs a pot of coffee and a box of donuts as they walk over to their desks. Sitting down he fills both of their cups and picks up the phone "Time to start making cols."

About an hour latter he dials the last number from the adders book and waits for the ring to be answered. A voice from the other end answered "Hello, this is James can I help you." Toron quickly asks "James Steven?" the voice on the other end replies "Well, that's one name I use. Its something of an valise to be quite honest its not my legal name. I try not to use my real last name. The place I work is really not a very nice place and I'd rather not have some of the people who go in there come lurking around my home. My mother lives hear with me and she is rather ill. I'm certain you can understand." Toron replies "Yes, | can. I understand You know a Colera Jensen." The voice at the other end responds "Why yes, very well. Were fairly good friends I hope you don't think that sees committed some crime. Sees one of the most honest people I know." Toron sighs "Not at all, were looking for leads in her murder." The voice on the other end gasps. "Oh, dear. I knew that horrid Steven Johnson would do something just terrible to her sooner or later. Why just last night she was in the bar, very upset I might add, and I warned her that Steven was their. She seed that he might be of some help for a change." Toron interrupts abruptly. "While the name is of great help, I believe your mistaken about the date. She was found dead two days ago." The voice on the other end replies "Thetas odd, I was certain that it was last night. She told me that she thought Steven was just the person she needed to see because some cook was holding her hostage." Toron drops his pen upon hearing that "She told you she was there under dourest? As someone's hostage? Did you happen to see who it was?" On the there end "She pointed him out but I cant for the life of me remember a thing about what he looked like. You should ask Steven, I believe he may have followed her out when they left. But I didn't see them leave. Is that all?" Toron replies quickly "Yes thank you." and then hangs up the phone. He looks up at his partner "I do believe we have a lead. She was seen at a bar a night or two before she died, told a friend there that she was someone's hostage. They seed that a Steven Johnson Just might babble to give us a description." Carbon looks up from a file that was placed on his desk while they were talking on the phone with a very dark frown on his face. "Thetas a real shame." Toron looks at his partner with as puzzled look on his face as Carbon hands him the file "Steven Johnson was found dead earlier this morning after an anonymous tip reported a dead body. Cause of death was massive blood loss. It fits the same MO as Colera's death." Morons face turns pail as he looks the report over. "It looks like our killer is doing a very good job of covering his tracks.
